Here's the Wheelbarrow! A 3D-Printable airsoft ground-based FPV RC-XD which uses my Meteorite airsoft cap grenade system for a cheap yet very loud bang.
The Wheelbarrow circumvents any hazards or limitations to flying drones by being entirely ground-based. Not only is this safer but it also gives more scope to add larger/unusual payloads.
This is quite a significant build with quite a few costly components. However it is intended to be as easy to print and assemble as possible. Print time is around 3 days total and a full 300m reel should be enough to get the job done.
You will need knowledge in basic electronics although it is mostly just connecting pre-built modules together. Soldering skills are required. And a basic understanding of radio control will also help too.
The chassis is designed to be as simple to work with as possible, allowing for quick assembly once printed. There is no suspension aside from the give in the tyres.
THIS IS FOR AIRSOFT ONLY, Do NOT use for any other purpose.
Please that if you take anything like this onto the airsoft field, you are accepting that it may get damaged or lost. I am not responsible for any misuse.
Non-printed part lists (Amazon links are ):
4x 12V 550RPM gear motors: https://amzn.to/3GwydW1
I recommend you don't go any faster as the torque will drop, you will want a bit of grunt to this as it will be going across rough terrain. And you also probably don't want to go any slower either.
2.4Ghz Radio Control System: https://amzn.to/44QDm5d
I've been getting on alright with this RadioLink. You will need 3 channels minimum. This controller also has mixing for non-Ackerman steering. I've managed to get 230m line of sight before the Wheelbarrow started to become uncontrollable. A better antenna system would also help too.
1x RC AUX Switch: https://amzn.to/4kgzxLl
This is what fires the Meteorite grenades. Use a ON/OFF momentary channel to fire.
2x Brushed ESC: https://amzn.to/4jqfqtU
The ones I used are quite old, but are the same style as the one above. Obviously these can't take 320 Amps but I have driven a featherweight combat robot with them. These are more than enough to drive the Wheelbarrow. Make sure they can handle 12V as we'll be using an 11.1V battery.
1x 11.1V LiPo: https://amzn.to/3GvuOqp
Use whatever connector you wish, I prefer Deans. Doesn't need to be a monster battery but if you want good endurance make sure to get one with plenty of capacity.
I also recommend a fuse to prevent major short circuits. A 20 Amp fuse should be plenty. Automotive inline fuses are a good bet: https://amzn.to/3Yjn7cX
2x N20 6V 100RPM Gear Motors: https://amzn.to/4jYSj9O
These are for the fuzes. Don't vary too much in speed or you'll either end up with not enough torque to fire or a fuze you cannot reset by hand.
JST connectors or similar: https://amzn.to/44MNlIJ
I use these connectors for the fuze system so I can unplug the fuzes before unscrewing them.
Deans Pair For Power Link: https://amzn.to/435wOOO
Again if you want to use a different connector then by all means do.
You'll also want some wire too. For the high current wiring you probably don't want to go any thinner than 18AWG: https://amzn.to/4cUNagp
4x 6mm To Hex Coupling: https://amzn.to/44hinZg
These will mount the wheels onto the motor shaft. I've also included a printable extender to stop the tyres rubbing against the chassis.
4x RC Wheels: https://amzn.to/4jIVpic
The tyres are about as small as I'd dare go. Larger tyres are recommended, the Wheelbarrow can accept up to 125mm. You WILL want metal rims to prevent damage, people will be shooting at this thing! Make sure to epoxy the tyres onto the rims to stop them popping off.
4x M4 Bolts: https://amzn.to/4jX0RxT
The length may vary, these are to hold the wheels on. You don't want the bolts too long or the shaft will be pushed out of the couplings as you tighten it. Conversely if you are using the printed extensions you will need longer bolts.
3x16mm screws, you can use wood screws for convenience. These hold the printed parts together: https://amzn.to/4iCc0mN
2.5x8mm screws: https://amzn.to/4iFlo95
These hold the fuze caps on as well as the Camera Pod.
For the fuzes you'll also need either an M110 airsoft spring or a 1.4x14x40 spring. One for each fuze. The fuzes are based on my Meteorite system so check the video guide for more info.
You'll also need a M5x50mm roofing bolt for each fuze. Or at least a similar bolt with a low profile head.
FPV Camera Kit, I'm not an expert in this field. But there are plenty on Aliexpress. Make sure to get a receiver of your choice too. This is the sort of thing you need: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008038862372.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.pcDetailBottomMoreOtherSeller.176.31beHBSIHBSIWy&gps-id=pcDetailBottomMoreOtherSeller&scm=1007.40196.436742.0&scm_id=1007.40196.436742.0&scm-url=1007.40196.436742.0&pvid=06637931-2c9f-403e-b18d-f70818d4c964&_t=gps-id:pcDetailBottomMoreOtherSeller,scm-url:1007.40196.436742.0,pvid:06637931-2c9f-403e-b18d-f70818d4c964,tpp_buckets:668%232846%238114%231999&pdp_ext_f=%7B%22order%22%3A%221%22%2C%22eval%22%3A%221%22%2C%22sceneId%22%3A%2230050%22%7D&pdp_npi=4%40dis%21GBP%2134.52%2125.89%21%21%2144.89%2133.67%21%40211b655217460027047594992e9336%2112000043371024619%21rec%21UK%21%21ABXZ&utparam-url=scene%3ApcDetailBottomMoreOtherSeller%7Cquery_from%3A
6mm Polycarbonate: https://amzn.to/42UpNPI
Don't need much of it, this is used to shield the camera.
I also am experimenting with different antenna. But I am still working things out.
M3 Bolts for mounting motors: https://amzn.to/42OMeWj
I didn't use these ones, but I recommend stainless steel after my experiences. Should only need around 24.
Cap gun caps. I always recommend Sohni-Wicke caps.
I also recommend anchoring the power link to the Wheelbarrow, I used paracord.
GUIDE:
Due to the shear magnitude of the build, I have a video instead. The Meteorite Electric Fuze guide is also there to help you assemble the electric fuzes.
USAGE:
Make sure to check with your site before use. This thing isn't as overpowered as people think. Make sure to get some driving practice too.
Do NOT store the Meteorite cocked!
For airsoft use ONLY. Use only on private land with permission or at a proper airsoft site. Use responsibly, I'm not responsible for any harm or damage from misuse or malicious use of this device. Check with your airsoft site first. Keep away from ears, this is still a noisemaker at the end of the day. Do not use in confined spaces. Unload/disarm before entering safezones. Wear face protection when playing airsoft. Do NOT store or transport loaded. Make sure you stay within any radio control laws and restrictions. FOR CAP GUN CAPS ONLY!
I do not authorise reselling of this design, physical or electronic.
Caps, bolts, springs, threadlocker, motor, wire and grub screws not included.
