I love this model. I did run into a couple of problems after printing.
I found the fitment of the sockets to be a bit too tight. I ended up filing out a lot of material from those to allow the plugs on the limbs and head to fit better and allow a proper flush fit. Same issue between the legs and torso.
The next one could be a problem stemming from my lack of experience with printing, but the arms didn't quite line up properly with each other when it was all assembled. His left hand isn't quite holding the grip of the rifle, it's just floating between his fingers.
My final issues is with the base. If you have a smaller printer and want to be able to scale this up, you need to print the base vertically. This leads to a lot of very very difficult cleanup. The design of the base is also somewhat impractical from a painting point of view. I ended up modifying the base to remove the ring and the s for it, and added a basic flare to the base instead.
All that aside, the model is gorgeous, and looks great scaled up to ~33cm fully assembled height and painted. Great work!
what base scale is the model in?
im looking for a model to paint as a gift but i dont want it to be more then 15-20cm or so tall
the s look really heavy on this model, did they affect the print badly?
At 100% it's approximately 75mm scale. Without the base he stands 80mm tall. When I printed it, I scaled it to around 275%. I didn't use the preed parts as scaling doesn't work well with preed models. I oriented and ed it all myself. I only had a few small pock marks from my own s, and would likely have none now that I have a lot more experience. I would recommend you print the individual parts and paint in sub-assemblies. I initially printed the merged version and it was a nightmare to try to paint certain parts of it. One final recommendation would be to hollow the head and torso and make sure they're well drained.
