π§ Lithophane Box Lamp (LED Lamp Kit β MK001)
π Description:
The Lithophane Box Lamp is a decorative LED cube lamp designed to showcase 3D-printed lithophanes with soft internal lighting. When the light turns on, each side of the cube reveals beautifully illuminated images.
For this project, I chose to pay tribute to the legendary Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai, featuring some of his most iconic works, including:
π The Great Wave off Kanagawa
π» Red Fuji
π
View of Shichiri-ga-hama
β Torii Gate in the Snow

the STL and print using white matte filament for best backlit contrast
π Technical Specs:
Material: Printed in PLA
It is recommended to use dark filament for the outer frame to prevent light bleeding through the structure
The lamp consists of 3 modular parts:
π² Bottom: holds the LED light
𧩠Middle frame: slots for 4 lithophanes
β¬ Top cover: closes the box
π§ Assembly with Magnets and LED:
The Lithophane Box Lamp is designed to be easy to assemble thanks to a modular structure and the use of magnets.
𧲠Magnet Installation:
There are dedicated slots for 4Γ2 mm round magnets on all four corners of the middle frame and top lid.
Insert one magnet into each slot (you will need 12 magnets in total: 4 for the base, 4 for the middle frame, 4 for the top).
Use a small drop of superglue to hold each magnet securely in place.
β Important: Make sure to check and match the polarity of the magnets before gluing. This ensures the parts attract and assemble properly. Test the alignment before permanent fixing.
π‘ LED Installation in Bottom Part:
The bottom part (base) has a circular recess designed to hold a LED puck light (e.g. Bambu Lab LED Lamp Kit 001).
Insert the LED into the bottom slot before final assembly.
Ensure the LED is securely positioned and its USB/power cable is accessible from the outside.
The LED, combined with the magnets, completes the internal structure and provides easy access for future maintenance.
This system allows the top lid and structure to be easily attached and removed without screws, making the lamp modular and maintenance-friendly.
