3D model description

Vintage 1959 Kiekhaefer Mercury Mark A outboard motors, in roughly 1/25 scale.

Builds the 4 cylinder versions (35hp - 58hp) or the 6 cylinder versions (65hp - 78hp), the latter known as the 'Tower Of Power'. Different trim/chrome options available. May also work for other model years, including the 'Dockbusters'. These are as correct as I could make them from online images, I did not make these after official blueprints.

The engines consist of 18 - alternatively 17 - parts, the difference being the top cover trim molded into the top cover or as a separate part, depending on if you want the top cover trim chromed or engine color.

The engine has functioning steering and tilt, including a pin to fix it in whatever tilt angle you need/prefer.

The files can easily be scaled up, but I would not recommend scaling it down, due to parts that are already severely thin/small.

The printed engines pictured are raw prints, nothing have been done to the parts other than having been taken off the s and assembled.

Assembly instructions:

  • Insert the propeller cone into the propeller, and the propeller into the shaft bottom.
  • Insert the steering unit into place on the shaft bottom by first angling the top part through the 'hoop' and then align it with the pin hole.
  • Install the shaft top and then insert the steering pin through the shaft top, steering unit and shaft bottom. Then install the electrics on the right side of the shaft top.
  • Install the clamp onto the steering unit by carefully spreading it apart and over the pins, then lock it into place in position with the pin.
  • Put together the cowl (4cyl or 6cyl) and top cover of your choice, then install the top cover trim.
  • Insert the rear mesh into the top cover from behind, then the pullstart handle and choke on the front of the top cover.
  • Install top cover/cowl assembly onto the shaft top.
  • If you are building the 6cyl version, glue the filler trim onto the cowl between the top cover trim and shaft top.
  • Install front cover knob to front of top cover trim or 6cyl filler plate, and the steering connection bracket to the front of the shaft top.
  • After installing engine on your boat, insert clamp screws into holes in the front of the clamp.

As of yet I don't know how to provide you with decals, but I will add a picture with the decals used so you can print your own.

Voila, you now have a scale model Kiekhaefer outboard engine!
